BW005X - Halifax 1962 Bus at Skircoat Depot
A monochrome photo of a period street scene on Skircoat Road, Halifax, outside the bus garage in 1976. Pictured is a 1962 ex-Huddersfield Corporation Leyland Titan PD3A/2, fleet number 4414, Registration plate WVH414, destination board 'Private', and which was transferred to Calderdale, seen here sporting the early version Metro Calderdale livery with banded stripes above the cab. The bus conductor has just been dropped off and is entering the garage whilst the bus pulls away, probably on its way to Elmwood Garage, further along the road. In the background a Metro Calderdale liveried Morris Minor van is visible, along with a Datsun saloon parked in the visitors parking bay by the wall, and further In the distance the floodlights from the Shay football ground are visible. What is not clear is why someone would be sat upstairs on the front seat when the bus is otherwise empty and retiring after its shift.
A nice documentary shot capturing a moment in the life of a bus conductor 36 years ago. (order ref: bw005x)
